Susan Savia: Listen to Music

MORNING IN THE ORCHARD

(Copyright 2006 ~ Susan Savia. New Musical Arrangement by Susan Savia based on a song written by Grace Hosmer, c. 1914)

A song for awakening. This song started out a capella, it's based on "Springtime in the Orchard". While in the studio, I felt it needed something other than my voice and rearranged the music to include an extended loop on guitar for me to play along. This all reminds me of the symphony of birds that greet me during the summer mornings. On the CD, listen for the House Wren, Cardinal, Cat Bird, Mourning Doves, all recorded outside my bedroom window one early morning in July.
A little bird was in the orchard singing
Loud and clear arose his merry lay
All the air with melody was ringing
This is the song he sang that lovely day

CHORUS:
Wake! Wake! For now has come the Morning
O buds, come rub your sleepy eyes!
Listen! The brook his song is singing
Sweet is the air and blue the sunny skies

The flower buds that had so long been sleeping
Resting cosily within their beds
Gently murmured one unto the other
While rang this song above their pretty heads

The warm sun’s rays are daily growing longer,
Calling all about to life and light
Everything is breathing of the Summer
Singing this happy song in tones so bright
