From the recording Cosmic Summer Sojourn

Susan Savia, Composer
A meditative song about meditation. Many spiritual and religious metaphors in this song. (See how many you can identify.) In the studio, I recorded this with a famous "OM" recording behind it, which explains all the space in the song. Due to copyright regulations, I couldn't use the OM track. I retained the song as is, and I think the space works well for a song about meditation.

Lyrics

"Enlightenment is like the moon reflected on the water. The moon does not get wet, nor is the water broken. Although its light is wide and great, the moon is reflected even in a puddle an inch wide. The whole moon and the entire sky are reflected in dewdrops on the grass, or even in one drop of water. Enlightenment does not divide you, just as the moon does not break the water. You cannot hinder enlightenment, just as a drop of water does not hinder the moon in the sky. The depth of the drop is the height of the moon. Each reflection, however long or short its duration, manifests the vastness of the dewdrop, and realizes the limitlessness of the moonlight in the sky." Master Dogen (1200-1253)

LYRICS:

My radiant spirit, when tranquil I hear it in the land of La La Li
when doubt and confusion give rise to delusion
I search for Liberty
A moment, but fleeting. . . .Ahhh . . . . barely a greeting
When thoughts of my life are infused
Full of dissention [decension?] , into the dimension
I splash into . . puddles of moonbeam

Puddles of moonbeam I sense in you
Puddles of moonbeam I see in your eyes
Like in a dream, the hue of the night
Bathed in the glow of. . . puddles of moonbeam

“Why is it”, I smiled, “That my thoughts run wild in the land of La La Li?”
I spread my arms wide and look back inside
can’t seem to be there casually
When spoken or heard it seems quite absurd
to find that you’ve been there before
With some consternation and a couple gyrations
I dip my toe into . . . puddles of moonbeam

Puddles of moonbeam I long for you
Puddles of moonbeam I feel in your breath
Like in that scene where I couldn't quite see
Ripples of feeling.... in puddles of moonbeam

and……Love IS the answer, and SO spins the dancer
in the land of La La Li
I Twiddle my thumbs and count up my runs
then pose in the Mystery
When peace rings your phone it’s time to leave home
Emerge from a slumbering dream
Rise to the notion, Dive into the ocean
Of the luminous mind in puddles of moonbeam

Puddles of moonbeam I wish for thee
Puddles of moonbeam may you always share
a radiant spirit when tranquil you’ll hear it
Searching for you inside . . . puddles of moonbeam
